In an attempt to assess the efficacy of an antipsychotic for treating patients with schizophrenia, the efficacy and tolerability of the antipsychotic quetiapine (Seroquel®) were evaluated in a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study. Patients with schizophrenia were treated with quetiapine (Seroquel®) for at least three months, and all patients received treatment with placebo. The primary endpoint of the efficacy analysis was to determine the proportion of patients achieving a benefit from the antipsychotic. There was also a significant improvement in the secondary endpoints in which the percentage of patients who completed the study was compared with the placebo group. There was also an improvement in the primary endpoint in which the percentage of patients who completed the study was compared to the placebo group. There was no significant difference in the secondary endpoints in the double-blind, placebo-controlled studies. A total of 34 patients were treated with quetiapine (Seroquel®) for an average of 9.0 months (range: 1.5 to 17.5) and 17 patients completed the study (range: 2.0 to 23.0 months). The average treatment duration was 3.4 months (range: 1.0 to 12.9 months). The percentage of patients who completed the study was significantly improved in all of the study studies, but this improvement was only seen in one study, in which the percentage of patients who completed the study was compared to the placebo group. There was also a significant improvement in the secondary endpoints in which the percentage of patients who completed the study was compared to the placebo group, but only in one study, in which the percentage of patients who completed the study was compared to the placebo group. Study design:
Patients and their parents/carers participated in the study. Patients were assessed by two primary investigators at baseline and at the end of treatment, who also received treatment with quetiapine (Seroquel®) in a blinded fashion. Patients received either quetiapine (Seroquel®) or placebo (Seroquel®, Diametil®, Biasal®) for at least three months. The treatment group received the same treatment as patients who received placebo. Patients were administered the study medication, while patients received an open-label, placebo-controlled, two-period treatment period (three weeks) of treatment. The primary endpoints of the efficacy analysis were the percentage of patients achieving a benefit from the antipsychotic and the percentage of patients completing the study. For the open-label, placebo-controlled study, the primary endpoint of the efficacy analysis was to determine the percentage of patients achieving a benefit from the antipsychotic.
